The Korean war had negative consequences for interests of many countries, including the USSR. Because of this war Moscow fully and for a long time spoiled relations with Washington. The war created tensions in the Soviet-Chinese alliance. Beijing was offended that the Kremlin had convinced it to fight on the peninsula while staying on the side and collecting payments for Soviet arms supplies. Some other aspects of the conflicts also contributed to mutual irritation of the allies. The consequences of the Korean war were even more unpleasant for China. It got into a strong isolation in the world arena. The PRC was denied an access to the United Nations. China was encircled with American military bases while Chinese island Taiwan was turned by Washington into an “insinkable aircraft carrier” armed against the mainland. Beijing had no choice but to lean to the Soviet side and agree to the role of a “junior brother”. This unequal alliance triggered the Soviet-Chinese quarrel and later extremism in Beijing’s internal and external policies.
